What are the terminologies used to refer to guidelines, protocols, standards, etc. within the field of palliative care? Which kind of methodologies are used in the process of developing guidelines for palliative care? This scoping review will be performed using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR).
Any document that could be interpreted as a guideline in the broad field of palliative care. Ranging from guidelines on palliative care at home to hospices and inpatient palliative care units.
A detailed summary will be made of the used terminology for guidelines on palliative care originating from both countries with a well developed palliative care system, as well as from countries where palliative care is still in its initial phase. This outcome will allow for a comprehensive search for guidelines on palliative care. The search results will be assessed on the used methodology for guideline creation (ADAPTE, GRADE, AGREE...).
The final results of this scoping review will provide a renewed look into how the current guidelines on palliative care are being developed. This can lead to a framework by which local organisations could effectively start the development of modern, evidence-based guidelines on palliative care.
